Up at silly o’clock again today, planning to set out super early to get to school on time. Then a phone call, good news. No, not a snow day. (I’ve never had a snow day as a teacher, a few snow afternoons, but even they are rare, despite what you see on the news.) [...]

Got up at silly o’clock this morning, looked out of the window and observed a complete lack of any new snow. Not quite what I was expecting given the dire forecast. Checked the BBC weather site which informed me it was snowing. Hmm. Turned to Ben Marsh’s Twitter powered #uksnow map which showed the [...]

One of the best things about being on holiday is actually having time to read. I read all the time, but not in the same way; usually it’s a case of 20-30 minutes at a time, which is still enjoyable, but not quite as satisfying as being able to read for as long as [...]

‘Hi Miss, are we doing something fun today?’
‘Absolutely, we’re doing this nice past exam paper. What could be more fun than that?’
I’m not really a Scrooge, the last day of term is usually a little light-hearted, but my Y10 group have a GCSE maths module exam less than three weeks into next [...]

Oh my, I’ve been rather quiet here of late. Can I blame work, or shall I go straight for a plea of insanity?
Anyhoo, I haven’t evaporated/been kidnapped by aliens/fallen down a well. I am perfectly fine, just doing too much for my own good (as usual).
However, I am going to be making [...]

It’s not been a bad day, there have been many good points. But it appears that I have not exactly been on the case: I arrive at school and discover that I am wearing dark blue striped trousers and a black jacket. This is not exactly what I had in mind.(Mind you, it’s nothing [...]

As we headed home I decided to call Mr TLC.
“Hello,” I said in my best spooky voice, “I’m calling you from the future.”
Well, France is an hour in front you know. Surely that’s the future?

Our final stop – and probably the highlight of our trip for most of the students – was the Eiffel Tower. I’d previously made it as far as the second level on a previous school trip, but insane crowds prevented us from ascending further on that particular ocasion. Well, it was 14th July.
[...]

Have you ever met someone you know or spotted anyone famous whilst you were on holiday? Not something I expected to happen to me in Paris, but whilst we were strolling through Montmartre I unexpectedly glimpsed a familiar face.
Hiding down a side street and smiling down at us was the unmistakeable grin of [...]

It’s amazing how long postcards takle to arrive isn’t it? It’s almost a month since I returned from my trip to Paris and it’s only just arrived. Amazing
A school trip may be hard work, but it’s also great fun! We started off with a visit to the Cite des Sciences et de [...]

The real three-legged cat
Welcome! Hi, I'm Lois Lindemann. Welcome to my blog!
This is where I blither on about life, the universe and everything - sometimes even three-legged cats.
I am: a resident of Sheffield (it's been my home town for more than 20 years), a Londoner, a teacher of maths and ICT and a student of French.
I like: cats, Sheffield, walking, doing the pub quiz, maths, cooking, reading, red wine, theatre, weekends in London, cycling, eating out, museums, gardening, going to the cinema, real ale, learning French and spending far too much time online. (My partner, Mr TLC, says this is making me sound like a lonely hearts ad. Oh well.)
Any opinions expressed in this blog are my own, I don't claim to speak for anyone else in education or outside of it. If you disagree, feel free to comment!
