The Road to Nowhere

I live on the dullest road in Sheffield. It’s lovely.

My road goes nowhere, so it’s quiet.

As far as I am aware, my neighbours are unlikely to attract the attentions of any passing paparazzo, so, as I said, it’s quiet.

Which leaves me wondering why I passed a camera crew at the [...]

I should be working…

… but a little procrastination won’t hurt. Isn’t that what weekends are for?

Anyhoo, it must be time for a quick catch up, so here it is:

I’m now two weeks into my new job and still very happy that I’ve moved. I’m still trying to remember a great many names, getting lost/walking in [...]

TLC’s Midnight Garden

An unexpected treat tonight: walking through town we passed the Winter Gardens. Have they always been open so late? I’m sure they used to be bolted and barred from early evening.

Anyway, in we went and discovered that we had the place to ourselves (I’m sure there was a security guard/City Centre Ambassador/CCTV [...]

The Non-Triumphant Return of the Three-Legged Cat

Hello! Remember me? I’ve been exceedingly busy doing a great many things, some interesting, some not (such is life), so here’s a quick update:

I have been to Paris, which went something like this: count children onto a bus, set off, travel a bit, count children, arrive at science museum, count children, have a [...]

In Summer, quite the other way

Longest day? Not here it isn’t. Some of us are off to bed ridiculously early thank you very much.

Going to bed in the daylight is something I associate with childhood, so it seems rather appropriate given the cause of my tiredness. What cause would that be? Someone had a rather sleepless night last [...]

I fall at the first hurdle

It may be unpatriotic, it may even be treasonous, but I’m going to say it anyway: football bores me to tears.

I’ve no problem with other people liking it, nor do I mind the fact that almost everyone else in Eng-er-land has festooned their home/car/bicycle/cat with Eng-er-land flags, I just don’t really want to [...]

Things I have learned today, Paris edition

Tunnel related paranoia is much worse than being in an actual tunnel. You know that feeling that you get when the rollercoaster is about to set off? That was me on the Eurostar this morning. However the queasy and uneasy feeling did not last long: we were about halfway through the tunnel before [...]

That was the week that was…

Thursday (Ofsted – 4 days) My day starts, as usual on Thursdays, with a group of wildly enthusiastic primary students. I arrive at my own school at break to be greeted by The News. *They* have called. Well, we were expecting it – bring it on. Am I coming into school at the weekend? [...]

Blog, interupted

I’m sorry I can’t get to the blog right now, but please leave your message after the beep…

Things are a bit busy just now. We got the call on Thursday, Ofsted arrive on Monday. I have a lot of paper to generate. Probably no time for blogging, not even for sneaky back posts [...]

Getting Our Goat

Sneaky backpost #2 Our visits to the Royal Albert Hall always seem to start with what seems like hours (but is actually probably only a few minutes) hanging about outside, waiting for the doors to open, getting distinctly cold and wondering why there is no convenient London Boozer lurking in the neighbourhood.

This time [...]
