Today is World Maths Day. Actually, it is a little more complicated than that, depending on where in the world you are, some part of today and maybe a bit of tomorrow is World Maths Day.
So what is it? In my case it is the most insane lunchtime I have ever known: a room full of over-excited students pitting their calculation skills against online “mathletes” from around the globe. A room full of students shrieking and jumping up and down when they won, or came second, or third, or anywhere. Enthusiasm was in plentiful supply. I think it was good, but by the end I was a bit, well, frazzled.
Anyway, in honour of World Maths Day, may I present a terrible mathematical joke:
