I am no longer a member of the vegetarian club, I fell off the waggon a few years ago. I loved being a veggie, I never missed meat (no, not even bacon) and I still eat mostly veggie food. But in all my years as a veggie there was one thing for which I never found a suitable vegetarian alternative:
“I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!”
Since this is one of my most overused phrases, it presented a small challenge. What do starving vegetarians eat?
Neither “I’m so hungry I could eat a large lettuce!” nor “I’m so hungry I could eat a sack of carrots!” quite cut the mustard*. Any suggestions?
*Suitable for vegetarians.
A carton of Bran Flakes? A last resort and you would keep chewing on…and on.
A bale of hay?
Very large, very unlikely and a link with the horse.
I like them both, but I think the bale of hay wins. I’m going to try that one out at lunchtime at work tomorrow…
Cheese, large quantities of cheese. Definitely. Because you can’t!
Very true BW! I am always amused that the Co-ops Cheese & Onion crisps aren’t suitable for vegetarians, but their Smokey BAcon flavour ones are.
