The students return to school today, so I’ll be teaching my first lessons for many weeks. On the first day back, I always find myself remembering the wise words of one of my former tutors, offered just before I started my first teaching practice:
“Remember that there will be 31 people in that classroom, and you are the only amateur”
Des Wilson
To be honest, that’s still good advice.
Yikes and ‘good luck’.
I’d normally say ‘break a leg’ but apparently the start of school in September sees a sudden rise in minor casualty admissions because everyone is so excited to be back.
Best.
My fave expression is:
Remember that the class are a year younger than they were on the last day of term.
Think about it.
Hope you’ve survived la rentree as the French would say.
